CHINESE KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMME 小小秀才坊

(5 & 6 years old)

According to statistics, nearly 1 billion people speak some form of Chinese worldwide, which is more than any other language! As such, by learning Chinese, your child unlocks the potential to communicate with over 13% of the world's population.

Dreamkids is proud to present "小小秀才坊", our Mandarin Kindergarten Programme. This result-proven programme seeks to give our children a head-start in the increasingly competitive world and get them future-ready by learning the Chinese language and culture. It is a 3-hour daily, 5 days a week programme, specially designed for children aged 5 and 6.

Our team of curriculum specialists has designed our Mandarin Curriculum that focuses on four language components - Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Each lesson was fun and laughter as children immersed themselves in a language-rich and engaging learning environment.

In addition, our small teacher-to-child ratio (1: 10) provides ample opportunities for our teachers to work closely with the children, allowing them to personalise the lesson based on their progress and interests. Armed with a strong foundation in Chinese, our graduates are confident to handle the primary school Chinese curriculum with ease.

Here's what our parents say,

"This came up on my Facebook memories today, and it couldn't be a more timely reminder of how much the Chinese teachers and programme at Dreamkids have helped and developed Emma when she was attending preschool there.

To me, language has always been something you either have a flair for or put in the necessary effort and expose yourself as much as possible to it on a daily basis – and hope to get to a decent standard in conversation, reading and writing.

We speak almost no Mandarin at home. My elder daughter left her preschool with a decent grasp of and a healthy interest in Mandarin – she wasn't going to be the top student but at least she didn't dislike the language. This changed when she started primary school. On hindsight, I feel that this was largely due to a substantial reduction in the number of hours she was exposed to Mandarin on a daily basis. In preschool, she would spend at least 3 hours a day on the language; this was probably cut down to an hour a day once she started primary school. By the time I started her on Chinese tuition in Primary 3, I think I'd left it too late in the sense that the initial interest in Mandarin had waned significantly by then.

With this hindsight being foresight applied to Emma, I was actually anxious about what I could do to ensure that she continued to have a good focus on Mandarin as she graduated from Dreamkids. Like it or not, Mandarin is her mother tongue and the reality is that the language will be even more key for her generation and future ones as they grow up. I also feel that she's too young to get the support and motivation she needs in either a one-on-one or big group setting for Mandarin. Therefore, I wasn't too keen on starting her on a weekly tuition class – even though it seemed like I didn't have (m)any other options.

So I was really glad when the teachers at Dreamkids spoke to me about the P1 Immersion Programme they ran. We knew first hand that how they were teaching Mandarin in school worked – I'm not saying they're miracle workers here; the students and parents still need to play their roles, but at least, the structure and support are there and set up in a way which has proven to work with Emma.

The class size is not too big or too small – to me, it's an ideal size for Emma to still have enough attention from the teacher and also to learn from and alongside her peers." (Geok Leong, Parent of Dreamkids since 2021)

"Zac's Chinese foundation has been built up from Dreamkids since he attended PG, joining their Pri 1 Chinese programme helped reinforced his speaking, reading, writing and hanyu pinyin as we seldom speak Chinese at home. He has been getting full marks at 听写 and his hanyu pinyin is so much better than mine! His spelling is also always full marks!! He doesn't struggle with spelling - definitely coz of Dreamkids too!! "Sophie started attending the Chinese Immersion classes in late Jan 2020 and within a couple of weeks, I've noticed some pretty big changes. Before that, she lacked the confidence to speak mandarin and didn't show much interest. These days, she comes home singing Chinese songs, 'teaching' me how to write Chinese characters, and even answers me in sentences!" Thank you Dreamkids and Yu Lao Shi!
